Ag Days Contests
2012 Contest Theme: “Healthy Farms, Healthy Foods”
Contest Rules:
- Open to all Sonoma County Schools, grades K - 6 and Special Education.
All work must be students original work/ideas. - No company logos or slogans to be used.
- Entries must pertain to the theme.
- Winners will be contacted and honored at the Ag Days Awards Dinner, Tuesday, March 27, 2012, beginning at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Awards Program,
Sonoma County Fairgrounds. - Ag Days Student Contest Entries delivered between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on February 22, 23 & 24 to Sonoma County Farm Bureau,
970 Piner Road, Santa Rosa.
Bookmark Contest
Rules: One bookmark per student. Bookmarks must be 2” x 6” and relate to the theme. Bookmarks must include school, class, student’s name, address, phone, grade, and teacher’s name on the entry.
Essay Contest
Rules: Essay must be a minimum of 50 words and a maximum of 150 words and be based on the theme “Healthy Farms, Healthy Foods.” Essay must include school, class, student’s name, address, phone, grade, and teacher’s name on the entry.
Poster Contest
Rules: One poster per student. Posters may be no smaller than 8 1/2” x 11” and no larger than 12” x 18”. Posters will be judged for sincerity, originality, and relevance to theme. Poster must include student’s name, school, address, phone, teacher’s name, and grade on poster back.
Farm Photography Contest
Rules: One color photograph per student. The photograph must depict a Sonoma County farm scene and relate to the theme “Healthy Farms, Healthy Foods.” Photos must be at least 5 by 7 inches but no larger than 8 by 10 inches. No mats or frames. Photos will be judged on angle, lighting, color, contrast, viewpoint and technical ability. On the back of each photograph please include the student’s name, school, grade, address, phone number and teacher’s name.
Decorate-A-Grocery Bag Contest
Rules: One decorated bag per student. You can use a paper bag or cloth bag from a grocery store or make a shopping bag of your own. Then let your imagination run wild and decorate the bag based on the theme
“Healthy Farms, Healthy Foods.” The decorated bags will be a judged on originality, craftsmanship, creativity and adherence to theme. Each entry must have the student’s name, school, address, grade, phone and teacher’s name.
Scarecrow Contest
Rules: One scarecrow per class. Scarecrows may be any size (child or adult-sized). They may be standing or in other positions. Entries must be one piece, sturdy enough to withstand transport and weigh not more than 40 pounds and no taller than 72 inches. Entries will be judged for originality and sincerity. Farm Bureau reserves the right to disqualify scarecrows deemed inappropriate. All qualified entries will be exhibited at Ag Days. Each entry must include school, class, address, phone, grade, and teacher’s name attached to the scarecrow.
Mural Contest
Rules: One Mural per class. Murals must be 3’ X 6’ and have three reinforced holes at the top for hanging. No company logos or slogans may be used. Murals will be judged for ideas, originality, and relevance to theme. Murals must include school, class, address, phone, grade, and teacher’s name on the entry.
Farm Video Contest
Rules: One video per class, student or group of students. This can be a class, individual or group project. The video must depict a Sonoma County farm, agricultural processing facility, farmer or farm family. The video must relate to the theme “Healthy Farms, Healthy Foods.” The video should be no more than five minutes in length. The videos will be judged on content as well as visual appeal, sound and technical ability. Please submit your videos on a DVD, VHS or flash drive. Each entry must have the school or student’s name, address, grade, phone and teacher’s name.
Awards
Awards for the Bookmark, Essay, Poster, Farm Photography and
Decorate-A-Grocery Bag Contest:
Ribbons will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category. Grand prize winner will receive a plaque and $50. Categories: K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th , 6th and Special Education.
Awards for the Scarecrow, Mural and Farm Video Contest:
Ribbons and $25 will be awarded to each grade’s 1st place winner. The grand prize winner, selected from first place winners, will receive a plaque and $50 in total prize money. Ribbons will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Categories: K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and Special Education.
Ag Days Awards Dinner
All contest winners will be honored at the Ag Days Awards Dinner!

Please note: Teachers can pick up entries at the Farm Bureau office beginning April 3, 2012.
